The Rega RS3 seems just to be a floor standing version of the superb little RS1, but they are so much more than that! The RS3 is a individually designed and voiced model, which takes cues from the RS1 with exceptional clarity and musical insight, but gives more scale and depth to the sound.
The RS3 uses a larger cabinet and extra, side firing, driver to create its bigger, room filling sound. Though in reality, the RS3 is a smaller package than RS1s would be when placed on suitable stands. We feel that they are the most domestically acceptable of all the Rega RS series as they are probably one of the smallest high performance floorstanders on the market.
Rega still use paper cone drivers, which may seem very outdated in today's world of ceramics and carbon fibre, but in reality the original technology was never really surpassed. Expensive high tech materials may theoretically give an advantage but always seem to have a sonic drawback greater than their benefit … though their use looks good in a sales brochure!
