Rega Radio

The sound quality produced by the Rega Radio 3 is impressive. Even though the FM transmitter which the Rega locks on to, is about 35 miles away (from my location), the background hiss is extremely low compared to other tuners at the same price. Speech comes through very convincingly, especially female voices which can be difficult. Frequency range is good and the bass sounds firm and taut. In particular jazz is given the right treatment so symbols and drums sound very convincing. The Rega produces a good sound stage, separating out various instruments and really comes alive when concerts are broadcast in the evening by BBC Radio 2 or 3.

The only gripe is, without a handset, it is a bit of a fiddle to change channels and no channel details show up on the panel so you need to remember up to 20 memory numbers. In summary, this tuner for the price is ideal for music lovers who don't need dozen of channels.
