Rega took a long time to join the digital revolution, partly because it wasn't their way to introduce a product that couldn't produce a superlative performance and at the time their Planar 3 turntable already outperformed any of the available CD Players. So what Rega needed was a Player which could at least come close to the musical, exciting yet warm sound of their analogue range.
The result was the Rega Planet CD Player (named after their original record player from the 70s), which followed Regas ethos of dispensing with the unnecessary and investing in the essentials, hence the expensive DAC but lack of motorised drawer or remote.
The Apollo takes the purist platform of the excellent Planet and brings the technology forward, using revolutionary ideas to extract ever last drop of music from the disc. Before playing, it analyses the CD and sets itself up to give optimum performance. It incorporates a three point mounting arrangement for the disc and dispenses with the clamp to ensure an accurate 'disc to motor fit' and lower rotational mass, uses an even better Wolfson Sigma Delta 24bit DAC and features a unique high capacity buffer which ensures jog and resonance resistance.
Interestingly we find that a high percentage of enthusiasts with mainly vinyl based systems, will have a Rega Player to play their CDs. Regas are still one of the few CD Players that present music with true soul and emotion.
